perspective

I thought long and hard about actually posting this post, but Kaylyn's post last week gave me the courage to share. Unemployment has been an uphill battle for me. It's a full time job... looking for a full time job. As someone who's easily discouraged and a little more than a little bit self-conscious, I have had more than a few meltdowns in the past month. Why don't I have a job? Why is this so hard? Overqualified? Is that even a thing? are just some of the questions that have been running through my mind lately. I spend probably three to four hours a day applying for jobs, following up and reaching out to everyone and anyone I've ever met that could maybe help me... even a little bit. And let me tell you. It's discouraging.

After meltdown number 504 this past week, I had some real talk with myself. How many people do I know currently in this position? More than a few. How many people do I know who have been in this position in the past? Most. So I'm not special. I'm not going through anything that everyone else hasn't gone through.

I have a degree... one I worked hard for. I have experience... something I also worked hard for. I have a lot of heart. And most importantly, I have opportunity. Something's gotta give one of these days; we'll all find our place in the workforce. Sometimes, though, you just have to put things in perspective.

I totally hear you! I've got a Social Studies teaching degree, a teaching license, and no job! It's hard, and with jobs being so limited, it really is a full time job looking for one! Good luck to you, girl! You'll find one soon enough!

...Now if only money grew on trees. ;)

I'm so worried about graduating for this very reason! I know I'm gonna need something to pay the bills while I get my own business off the ground but the thought of not finding something is terrifying! Wishing you the VERY BEST of luck in your search & hope you find something real soon!

I was in the exact same position. Although i do not know what your degree is in, mine is in early childhood education. I graduated last May and couldn't find anything or what i found wasn't interested because they already had somebody else in mind. Every interview the administrators would say, "You interview so well!" But i wouldn't get a call back. Luckily, after about four interviews (getting the interview was the hardest part...basically you need connections), i had two schools who wanted me. Stick it out girl and have confidence in you. Believe in what you say and show your enthusiasm and some awesome person will snatch you up! Do not be discouraged.

I hear you, the market is so tough and you don't even know which direction to go in some days. I'm sorry you are going through such a tough time. I hope things turn around for you soon!

Cheers.

Allie - I'm so glad you echoed Kaylyn's post on the roughness of unemployment. It really is such a struggle but God is so refining and perfect in providing what we truly need during different seasons in life. Keep up the search! I'm right there with you! Praying for you!

i was just thinking about you & your job hunt the other day. i think my time of unemployment after college was when i was at my lowest in every way - self-confidence, happiness, cash money.. you know. once i was offered one job, though, i was offered like five. it'll come. maybe you're supposed to have this time for some reason - i'm thinking about you, lady. <3

I've been stuck in a rut as well. I graduated last spring, and am still doing a job that has nothing to do with my degree (working in retail). It's tough out there, but you will find your way. Good things are coming.

It's tough out there. I was without a job for a year after moving from Chicago to Austin. It got to the point where I was taking my masters degree off of my resume in order to get interviews and I considered taking my blog offline thinking that it may be the issue. I finally found a job that values me and my Twitter addiction. It may be a bit underpaid, but at least I get to wear leggings to work. :-) Keep at it and good luck!

Hang in there. I've been where you've been and so has my husb. It can feel absolutely ENDLESS in the moment, but when you look back it will just be a blip on the radar of your life. When it's all said and done you will be a resume/cover writing champ (something my friends/husband have come to appreciate).

I got laid off last week (last day is this Friday) and I'm already having anxiety dreams about job hunting and money and all of it. It sucks, but hopefully all it is a path to a great job - or career! Keeping fingers crossed for us :)

i just found your blog & felt the need to comment on this. i'm sorry you are having a hard time! it is definitely a hard time to be looking for a job. i graduated last spring and spent the time until october jobless & miserable. but so was my bf and friend group, which made it a little easier. at least we were all in the same boat. and you are in the same boat as A LOT of people, and something will happen for you eventually...it just has to. in the meantime, try to get up in the morning (i know that's hard!), spend some time on job apps, then do stuff for yourself. for me, the free time was a blessing and a curse, but i managed to do a lot of personal projects, read books i had been neglecting, etc.
